Developed by the Harvard Kennedy School and the Harvard Graduation School of Education, the “College of the Great Lakes” is an interactive, in-class simulation exercise focused on crisis leadership in higher education at a small private university. Part 1 of this exercise is designed to be read in advance, providing relevant background information, institutional history, and context. Parts 2 through 6 are then presented during class in “real time,” requiring participants to respond to the changing circumstances of the emerging situation and apply relevant crisis management principles to the handling of the Great Lakes scenario as it unfolds.
