President Frohnmayer releases a “comment draft” of the revised diversity plan and assumes responsibility for final revisions. After the draft has been widely circulated and reviewed, he submits a new plan to the Faculty Senate. Under the revised plan, review, promotion, and tenure decisions are no longer tied to cultural competency. The new plan also includes a definition of diversity, an outline of the responsibilities of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, and a commitment that no unfunded mandates will be imposed on schools or colleges. This scaled-down plan is passed by a Faculty Senate vote of 32-6.
